Focus of the L-LAB

The L-LAB's primary field of activity is the application of light and its effect in a traffic environment. Interdisciplinary project teams are researching on topics for automotive electronics and lighting. This is closely connected with a pronounced interest in the interaction of driver behaviour and in the vehicle guidance and dynamics, especially for driving during night or with poor visibility.

In this context project groups are currently working on topics such as:

•  Physiology (aiming at a better understanding of cognition, cognizability, glare...)
   
•  Psychology and ergonomics (under what conditions does a supporting system like e.g. night-vision really help and not irritate)
   
•  Dynamic adaption of head lamp light (e.g..depending on course of the road, on other road users or weather conditions, ...)
   
•  Night-driving simulation ( e.g. measurement of the viewing strategy under almost real conditions or the driver behaviour while driving by night under sudden irritations, ...)
   
•  Modelling driver behaviour (How does a driver orientate in order to keep the lane and how should optimal lighting be conditioned for this purpose,...)
   
•  Avoidance of scattered light due to condensation in headlamps (Simulation of  fogging and defogging)

Common line of all above subjets is the search for optimal assistance for human locomotion in a complex traffic environment.
