Visit of Minister Pinkwart

During his tour „Innovation places in Northrhine-Westfalia – Cooperation of Science and Industry” the minister for innovation, Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, visited the L-LAB on September 7th 2005. He was accompanied by the entire rectorate of the University of Paderborn. Dr. Breidenbach (GV), Dr. Buchalla (CR) and Prof. Woldt (Member Executive Board L-LAB) welcomed the group and showed some of the highlights of the L-LAB

Explanation of the L-LAB projects

Prof. Woldt started with a presentation of the history of the L-LAB, explaining the cooperation between Hella KGaA and the University of Paderborn, and continued with project focuses of the L-LAB, the organisation and the advantages of this institution. Furthermore the exchange between science and economy was discussed with a huge emphasis on the importance of this cooperation for knowledge transfer, regional structural change and generation of new innovative jobs. Afterwards the different projects were introduced by Prof.Woldt and Dr. Buchalla.

In the field of Mesopic Vision one of the experimental set-ups to measure visual performance under the lighting conditions as encountered in traffic situations during night was demonstrated
Further the project group "Active Lighting" presented a prototype head lamp for dynamic lighting. Also the simulator for driving at night, which is used in investigations evaluating safety relevant features of driver assistance systems, was demonstrated to minister Pinkwart
In this context, several empirical surveys were outlined. Prof.Pinkwart was impressed especially by the possibilities to perform securitiy relevant studies in the simulator. After the official end of the Minister's visit, the attendees had further interesting discussions.
